We live in a rapidly-changing world where nothing seems to remain stable for very long. Even “truth” is no longer absolute but is subject to cultural changes, popularity and ever-changing new “science.”

As Christians, we must remain steadfast and build our lives on the solid, unchangeable and unshakeable foundation of the Word of God. We are not free to believe whatever is popular or whatever we want depending on the age and culture in which we live. Christians are to believe the words of the Christ, because He is our Lord and Saviour. He is also known as “The Word of God”, “The Truth” and the “same yesterday, today and forever”. The Word of God is The Truth and it is absolute. Therefore, it has no need to change, ever, since it is and always will be, 100% right.

When it comes to truth, Christians need to be narrow-minded no matter what others may say about us. We must contend earnestly for the truth of the God’s word (Jude 3). It is under ferocious attack from all sides by the world – which lies under the sway of the evil one (1 John 5:19). And obviously the world’s way is not the way or the will of God. So, we must renew our minds to The Truth so we that can experience God’s will in this world (Rom 12:2).

The world does not like anything or anyone “different.” Have you noticed the pressure to be conformed to this present world? Political pressure, peer pressure, cancel culture etc.  Paul warned us not to be conformed to this world and not to allow the pressure of this world to squeeze us into its mould but to be transformed by the truth. We must resist this pressure from the world to conform. Paul wrote to the Galatians, “But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed” (1:8). You see, Truth (The Bible) is not negotiable. It is absolute, it is constant and it is unchanging through the ages (much like Mathematics or the law of gravity). Certainly, there are scriptural ‘peripherals’ on which we might differ but there are also scriptural foundations which must never be compromised.

What are these foundational truths? The infallibility of the Bible, the origin of sin, the Virgin Birth, the sinless life of Jesus, His atoning death on the cross, His bodily resurrection, morality, the universal need for all men to be saved by faith in Jesus and His soon return to rule and reign.

Be on guard. Contend for the truth, for the truth will set you free.
